Donation policy

Donation and refund policy

HometownLift is the platform that organizations use to collect donations, dues, and event payments. Every gift goes to the organization you chose — not to HometownLift. This page explains how receipts, fees, and refunds work for donors and the organizations they support.

Receipts

Every gift is receipted automatically

Instant email receipt

When you give, HometownLift emails you a receipt showing the gift amount, the donor-covered fees, and the organization you supported. Keep it for your records.

Year-end statements

Organizations with verified nonprofit or fiscal-sponsor status can send IRS-aligned year-end donor statements automatically each January, summarizing your giving for the prior tax year.

Fees

Donors cover the fees. Organizations keep 100%.

HometownLift adds the platform fee and card processing to the donor's checkout total rather than deducting them from the gift. Donations, store, and raffle run at a 5% platform fee; memberships and sponsorships run at a lower 1%. Either way, the organization receives the full amount you intended to give.

Refunds

How refunds are handled

Refunds come from the organization

Because each organization receives its own funds directly through Stripe, refund decisions are made by that organization. If you believe a charge was made in error or want to request a refund, contact the organization first — or email support@hometownlift.com and we'll help connect you.

Timing and processing

Approved refunds are issued back to the original payment method through Stripe and typically post within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank. Charitable donations are often considered final, so refund eligibility is at the organization's discretion.

Tax deductibility

Deductibility depends on the organization

Whether a gift is tax-deductible depends on the receiving organization's tax-exempt status, not on HometownLift. Organizations are responsible for their own nonprofit status and for the accuracy of any tax language on their pages. Consult the organization or a tax professional for guidance on your specific situation. This page is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Payment security

How payments are processed

All payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment provider. HometownLift never stores full card numbers, and funds are paid out directly to each organization's connected bank account.
